The Thermo Electron Corporation ETD (Electron Transfer Dissociation) is an innovative option designed to enhance the analysis of proteins and post-translational modifications (PTMs). This unit from Thermo operates by inducing fragmentation along the peptide backbone in a sequence-independent manner, allowing labile modifications to remain on the peptide chain. Its design is particularly useful in identifying sites of modification, providing enhanced c- and z-type fragment ions that complement those produced by CID, thus increasing sequence coverage and the identification of protein IDs.
